Buhari mourns wife of Kano’s first governor, Ladi Bako

President Buhari described Ladi as one of the most powerful women in the political system during her time.

President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the family of Audu Bako, late military governor of the old Kano State, the government and people of Kano and Jigawa states over the death of Ladi Bako, wife of the late governor.

In a tribute released on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, President Buhari described Ladi as one of the most powerful women in the political system during her time.

Buhari said: “The late Hajiya Ladi was a great lady. She defined an era, and will always be remembered for her faithfulness to her family and the Kano community. May Allah give courage and perseverance to those she left behind to bear this irreparable loss.”

Ladi was born in Sabon Gari in 1930.

She attended missionary schools up to Standard 2. According to Ladi, her parents came from mid-western Nigeria and settled at Sabon Gari.

In 1949, Bako met Ladi and their love story began. At that time, she was 19 and Bako was 25.
