President Muhammadu Buhari has made another comment on the Nigerian civil war for which many Nigerians are angry. .

Buhari was a Lieutenant during the war, and has been using his experience of the event to warn the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) from continuing their secessionist agitation.

He tweeted that: “Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand,” he said.

Nigeria’s security forces have combing the South East for IPOB sympathizers,, including entering a church in Enugu where they arrested the entire men worshippers and took them to a detention facility. They were only released after the governor, Ifeanyi Ugwanyi intervened.

Buhari’s comment seeking to justify the military and police action in the region, has provoked angry reactions from Nigerians, many of whom replied with rage.

@ayosogunro said: “Buhari’s reputation is already sealed for all of posterity, but what saddens me are the people around him who will forever be tarnished by their association with his genocidal statements.”

@UNCLE_AJALA said: “Civil war that killed plus or minus 3m Igbos 51yrs ago, and still hurting so many people is what President Buhari is using to threatening people in 2021, while Boko haram members are getting rehabilitated, bandits & killer herdsmen are getting stern warnings, it’s so unbelievable.”

@DrOlufunmilayo said: “When Buhari speaks to bandits, He begs them. He appeals to them. But when Buhari speaks to citizens, He threatens us. He uses language that can be used to justify harm, violence and massacre against the same people he swore to protect.”

@firstladyship said: “Mr President declared war on the South East. While Tolu typed those threats & hateful words for the Igbos, Festus Keyamo cheered Buhari on. They’ve taken 97% vs 5% to a whole new level. You need no soothsayer to tell you the drums of war when you hear one. The world is watching.”
