Buhari inherited a bad economy from Jonathan administration –Ogbonnaya Onu

-

Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science and Technology on Sunday said President Muhammadu Buhari inherited a bad economy from the past administration of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan and has been working round-the-clock to fix it through its diversification.

Onu who disclosed the government’s predicament at the weekend, stated that the policies and programmes of the past administration contributed to the difficulty in the smooth take-off of the present administration.

The minister regretted that most agencies in the ministries are moribund but that the President is committed to the revitalisation of all the moribund agencies and facilities in the country.

The former Abia State governor restated his readiness to reposition the Ministry of Science and Technology to make it vibrant and create employment opportunities for the teeming youths in the country.

The APC national leader called on the people of Ebonyi State to support the Buhari-led administration as the state cannot afford to be in opposition.

He added that the state has tremendous potentials and must support the Federal Government to harness them.

Onu decried the use of his name in social media to defraud people explaining that some unscrupulous elements in the country did so to defraud people and urged the people to be mindful of such acts.

Addressing stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Onu said, “In the first place, I do not operate any facebook account. I wonder why people should use my name in facebook with my pictures to do all manner of business.

“So many people called me on phone that they were the ones chatting with me on facebook and I stand here to say I don’t operate facebook account, I don’t.

“If anybody creates facebook account with my name and pictures and said he is chatting with me, the person is a criminal. Ignore such a person.

“Some persons have been using my name and pictures to do all manner of business. I want to warn them to desist from this,’’ he said.

Onu used the occasion to debunk claims by some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that he visited Governor David Umahi to mend fences with him saying, he has no problem with the governor but that he visited him to console him on the demise of his mother, Mrs. Margret Umahi.

“I usually visit anyone that loses his/her parents irrespective of political affiliation as I know the pains of losing a parent which had happened to me when I lost my father and mother.”

He wondered why the visit was misinterpreted by some people and a section of the media. Earlier, the Ebonyi State acting Chairman of the party, Pastor Eze Nwachukwu told the minister that APC leaders came to celebrate with him.

He said the party in the state is now united and poised to win future elections in the state.
