Buhari hails Onyeka Onwenu as singer turns 70

Onyeka Onwenu was described by the President as a creative, sincere, and diligent person who continued to bring glory to Nigeria

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has eulogised renowned singer and Nollywood actress Onyeka Onwenu and described her as a creative, sincere, and diligent person who continued to bring glory to the country

This he said is his congratulatory message to the multiple award-winning artiste on her 70th birthday.

Buhari’s felicitation is contained in a statement obtained by TheNiche Newspaper and signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina on Sunday in Abuja.

In the statement which was titled ‘President Buhari greets Onyeka Onwenu at 70′, Nigeria’s number one citizen applauded the journalist for the reforms she brought into public service and for passionately creating and pursuing a vision for a better life for many.

Adesina, in the statement, said, “The President affirms that Onwenu’s creativity, sincerity of purpose and diligence continue to bring glory to the country, starting out as an NTA presenter and reporter that caught the world’s attention by putting a spotlight on corruption in the ’80s and releasing songs with great social and moral impact.

“President Buhari felicitates with the former Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of National Centre for Women Development and Chairperson of Imo State Council for Arts and Culture for the fresh ideas and institutional reforms she brought into public service, passionately creating and pursuing a vision for a better life for many.”

The President also said her many recognitions and awards, both at local and international levels, are well deserved and testimony to her kindness and selflessness. 

He prayed that the Almighty God would continue to bless Onyeka Onwenu, the singer of “One Love’’, who is also known as the Elegant Stallion, with long life and good health.
