Budapest 2023: Nigeria 4×100m relay teams attempt  last qualification chance in Lagos

Nigeria relay teams yet to qualify for the World Athletics Championships billed for August 19-27, will have a last throw of the dice when they compete in Friday’s Lagos Athletics Series, which will be held at the Yaba College of Technology sports center.

The men 4x100m, 

 and the women 4x400m are in the hunt for the Budapest 2023 ticket and according to Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) technical director Samuel Onikeku, the aim of the athletes is to come up with a performance that will launch them into the top ten of the qualifying rankings.

Ghana and Benin Republic are the countries who are also chasing a qualification ticket at the meet. Some of the participating athletes were seen warming up Thursday as they looked forward to their big day.

“We are hopeful of making it into the top ten not just the top 16,” said Onikeku

“All our athletes are well relaxed and ready, there is nothing like jet lag, based on our work out and the exchange practices we did, we believe strongly that the athletes will come up with the performance that will see them at the world championships.”
