BREAKING: Surprise, anxiety as Ekweremadu is nominated for Deputy Senate Presidency

The intrigues surrounding the election of the presiding officers of the National Assembly has come to a head with the surprise and unexpected nomination of the immediate-past Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, for the position.

Senator-elect, Chukwuka Utazi, nominated Ekweremadu, for the position in the current 9th Senate while Senator-elect Rose Oko (Cross River North) seconded the motion for Ekweremadu’s nomination.

By this, Senator Ekweremadu has joined the race with Senator-elect for Delta Central, Ovie Omo-Agege.

Senator-elect for Katsina North, Ahmed Baba Kaita, Omo-Agege while Senator-elect, Niger North, Abdullahi Aliyu Sabi, seconded it.

If Ekweremadu clinches the position, he will be serving a record fourth term as Deputy Senate President having serving as deputy to David Mark in the 6th and 7th Assemblies and Bukola Saraki in the 8th Assembly.

He will also be doing so on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) just as he did in the 8th Assembly.
