BREAKING: Supreme Court to rule on old naira notes saga, March 3

-

The Supreme Court has fixed judgment for March 3 in suits filed by some States against the naira swap policy of the Federal Government.

A nine-member panel led by Justice John Okoro announced the date after taking final arguments from lawyers to parties in the cases.

The apex court justices were silent on their earlier order to allow the old N500 and N1,000 notes.

The plaintiff in the suit – Kaduna, Zamfara and other states- also applied to commit to prison the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami for contempt over the failure of the federal government to comply with the Supreme Court directive which ruled that the old notes remain legal tender. The justices say the application would be entertained at the right time.
