Police re-arrest Sowore after release on bail

By Jeffrey Agbo

Human rights activist and #FreeNnamdiKanuNow campaigner, Omoyele Sowore, has been taken into custody again by the Nigerian Police, just moments after his release from the Kuje Magistrate Court in Abuja on Friday.

Sowore, alongside Prince Emmanuel Kanu — brother to detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu — a former member of Kanu’s legal team, Aloy Ejimakor, and 10 others, had earlier fulfilled their bail requirements set by the court.

The court had granted them bail in the sum of ₦500,000 each, with two sureties who must reside in the Federal Capital Territory, possess valid identification, and show evidence of three years of tax clearance.

Despite complying with all bail terms, Sowore was re-arrested by police officers immediately after the proceedings and transported to the Kuje Correctional Centre.

He is expected to appear in court again on Monday, October 27, to face a new charge linked to his statement alleging that President Bola Tinubu is a criminal.
