An Oyo High Court in Ibadan on Thursday dismissed the case instituted against Naomi Silekunolami, Agidigbo FM proprietor Oriyomi Hamzat, and the principal of Islamic High School, Ibadan, Abdullahi Fasasi, over the December 2024 food stampede that led to the death of 35 people, including women and children, in the city.

Judge B.K. Olawoyin ruled that convicting the accused persons would discourage individuals with humanitarian hearts to withdraw from supporting the vulnerable in society.

Oyo government charged the defendants to court on four counts of conspiracy, acceleration of death, negligent acts causing harm, and failure to provide adequate security and medical facilities.

It followed the tragedy at the Christmas Funfair Naomi organised at Islamic High School, Ibadan on 18 December 2024, supported by Agidigbo FM.

Hamzat commended the court for the verdict, and pledged that the incident, rather than discourage him, will motivate him to scale up his humanitarian gestures.

He stressed, however, that he will no longer collaborate with any organisation to hold such an event in the future, because he is still jolted by the incident and the large number of casualties, which he had never witnessed previously.

This is a breaking news. Details later….
