BREAKING: NLC, TUC declare nationwide strike, November 14 over brutalisation of Ajaero

There will be nationwide strike beginning November 14 to protest the brutalization of Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Leadership of the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) announced the nationwide strike after an extraordinary meeting of the unions held today, November 7.

Recall that Ajaero was manhandled by thugs and alleged policemen during a labour protest in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

The government of Imo State and labour leaders have been at loggerheads which resulted in violent confrontation on November 1 when Ajaero led NLC officials to a protest in the state.

At the extraordinary meeting of the leadership of the two unions in Abuja today, they demanded full compliance with their demand.

Although one of the demands of the unions has been met, which is the redeployment of the Imo state commissioner of police, Mohammed Barde who was accused by the Organised Labour of participating in the attack on Ajaero, the others demands are yet to be met.

The demand include the arrest and investigation of one Chinasa Nwaneri, an aide to the governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma who was accused to have brought the thugs and policemen that brutalized Ajaero.

Other demands include the arrest and prosecution of the thugs and policemen who participated in the dastardly action against the number one worker in Nigeria.
