BREAKING: Lagos sealed collapsed Lekki building in 2021

Lagos State Government sealed the high-rise building that collapsed on Sunday in Lekki area of Lagos last year for safety reasons, The Nation reports.

Authorities sealed the seven-storey building on February 18, 2021, the newspaper learnt.

Two bodies have been recovered from the rubble so far.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said rescue operations are ongoing at the site.

Director-General of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke–Osanyintolu, provided the update in a statement.

Six trapped under collapsed 7-story building in Lagos

It reads: “Situation report on the collapsed building at Oba Idowu Oniru Street beside Ave Maria Hospital.

“The agency responded to a distress call at the above mentioned location and activated its response plan. Upon arrival at the scene, an uncompleted seven-storey building undergoing construction was found to have collapsed.

“Six people are reported to be trapped under the rubble of the collapsed structure. Two bodies have been located and recovered thus far. Operation ongoing.”

It was not immediately clear the cause of the collapse but emergency workers and security operatives moved to the site to possibly rescue the trapped victims.

Oke-Osanyintolu and Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, assured that search and rescue operations were underway.
