In apparent reaction to allegations of double standard on recent ugly developments involving some air travellers, the Nigeria Police Force has acknowledged receipt of an official petition from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) over an alleged incident involving Fuji music star, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (popularly known as KWAM 1).

He is accused of engaging in unruly conduct that allegedly obstructed the safe operation of an aircraft, in violation of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, 2023 following a reported incident on 5 August 2025 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Media reports quoted a release by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, as confirming the receipt of the petition and

stating that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun) has directed the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the matter, to unravel the circumstances which led to the ugly incident and ensure justice is served accordingly.

The Force assured the public of its commitment to upholding safety and security within Nigeria’s aviation sector, while assuring stakeholders in the sector of improved collaboration towards aviation security and strict compliance with aviation laws.

The action by the NCAA and the police came on the heels of a recent episode involving an Ibom Air passenger, Comfort Emmanson, who was arrested and charged to court, while KWAM1, who committed a similar offence was never prosecuted.

Labour Party (LP) 2023  presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had consequently described the handling of Emmanson’s case by aviation authorities  as amounting to  “double standards.”

But in a riposte, NCAA explained why Ibom Air passenger, Emmanson, was arrested and charged to court, while KWAM1, who committed a similar offence was never prosecuted.

The spokesperson of the aviation regulatory body, Michael Achimugu, who offered the explanation insisted that only the airline can take such a decision.
