Okoye’s gruesome murder adds to the ugly incidences of unresolved murder and rising spate of insecurity in the South East. Of late, the entire region, particularly Orlu senatorial district in Imo and Anambra South senatorial district have been theatres of killings and arson by unknown gunmen.
The gunmen also kidnap. The effect is that their action has returned Anambra to the status of a state under siege. Nowhere is safe anymore. Increasingly, stories of attacks on police stations, local council headquarters and other public institutions, killings and kidnappings are heard. Aside kidnapping, the hoodlums also snatch vehicles and demand ransom in return.
Local government secretariats and other public buildings are equally attacked and set ablaze by the gunmen. The latest in the attacks were Aguata council secretariat, Ekwuluobia and Nnewi South local government headquarters, Ukpor.
Not done with the onslaughts, the gunmen have written letters to nine local government areas in Anambra State to be attacked soon.
The local government areas listed to be attacked are Ihiala, Aguata, Nnewi South, Awka North, Awka South, Idemili North, Idemili South, Orumba South, Orumba North and Anambra East.
In a message to the LGAs, the anonymous group warned security operatives to get ready for action in ‘Biafra Land’.
