BREAKING: IGP suspends special promotions, decorates 27 senior officers

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Egbetokun has suspended special promotions within the police, noting that it is jeopardising the job of officers.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Egbetokun has suspended special promotions within the police, noting that it is jeopardising the job of officers.

An obviously enraged IGP who dropped the hint, frowned at the rate at which some officers go to lobby for special promotions, warning that henceforth, anyone recommended for special promotions from powers above, will be disciplined.

Egbetokun also said when the need arises for any officer to be promoted specially, the issue will be handled by the police management.

He also banned undue soliciting for posting, warning that anyone found guilty of this act will be dealt with in accordance with the law of the Force.

Egbetokun read the riot act while decorating 27 senior police officers, who were recently promoted from their initial positions to new ranks.

Those newly decorated include one Deputy Inspector-General of Police; 11 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and 15 Commissioners of Police.

Among those decorated include DIG Yayaha Abubakar, a lawyer who hailed from Adamawa State and was the AIG Zone 14 before his elevation.

The newly promoted AIGs are Mohammad Badeh, Niger State-born former Commissioner of Police in charge of Safer Highway and Ahmed Armani who hailed from Katsina State and holder of master’s degree in law enforcement who has worked at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) among others.

Also is Jigawa State-born AIG Mohammed Hussain who was until his promotion, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Kano State Police Command.
