BREAKING: IGP orders arrest of activist, Prof Zainab Duke, for allegedly beating up her police orderly

The police say Zainab Duke grievously assaulted her orderly in the company of some accomplices on Tuesday 20th September 2022.

The Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, has ordered the arrest of a human rights activist, Professor Zainab Duke Abiola, for allegedly leading an assault on her police orderly.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Professor Zainab Duke was arrested along with her domestic staff over the case of assault on her police orderly.

Social media has been awash with the bloodied photographs of the police orderly, identified as Inspector Teju Moses.

According to the police spokesman, Adejobi, Professor Zainab Duke teamed up with her domestic staff to beat up her female police orderly because she refused to carry out some menial jobs for her.

The statement titled, grievous assault on woman police: IGP condemns the act, orders express prosecution of the case, reads: “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc, has strongly condemned the grievous assault of a female Police Officer, Inspector Teju Moses, by her principal who is a Legal practitioner and human rights activist, Prof. Zainab Duke Abiola and her domestic staff comprising the housemaid, one Rebecca Enechido and a male suspect currently at large.

“Zainab Duke, a Mbaise-born activist, grievously assaulted her orderly in the company of some accomplices on Tuesday 20th September 2022 at her residence in Garki, Abuja, due to the refusal of the orderly to breach professional ethics by carrying out menial and domestic chores at her house.

“The IGP has directed the express prosecution of the arrested suspects who are currently in Police custody, as the preliminary investigation shows overwhelming evidence of culpability on the part of the Professor and her domestic staff.”

Policemen attached to Very Important Persons (VIP) are supposed to provide security protection for them, not become one of their errand boys. But In Nigeria, the police have been reduced to handbag carriers and car washers.-

In 2016, the Police Service Commission (PSC) warned all police officers on escort duty with Very Important Persons (VIPs) to stop carrying their handbags and umbrellas as such practice was an insult to the Nigeria Police Force. The PSC at the time did not envisage that policemen would also become car washers.
