With just about 48 hours to the general election, the Labour Party Senatorial candidate for Enugu East Senatorial district, Oyibo Chukwu has been killed, according to multiple media reports.
Oyibo, a lawyer was said to have been attacked while returning from a campaign trip.
He was said to have been burnt inside his vehicle, but it was not yet known how many people were with him in the vehicle.
According to Vanguard Newspaper, a top member of the party has confirmed the incident, but pleaded that he should not be quoted.
Oyibo’s would have squared against Chimaroke Nnamani of the PDP and Ada Ogbu of APC for the Enugu East Senatorial seat.
Civil Society group, SERAP, has already issued demanding investigation of the reported murder of Chukwu.
In a tweet, the organisation said: “The Buhari administration must promptly investigate the reported killing of the Labour Party candidate for Enugu East Senatorial district, Oyibo Chukwu in Enugu while returning from a campaign trip. The perpetrators must be immediately arrested and prosecuted.”
