The Majority Leader in the 8th Assembly of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, from Lagos State has been elected Speaker of the 9th Assembly.
The race for the Speakership was between Gbajabiamila (Lagos, APC) and Umar Bago (Niger, APC).
A total of 360 members cast their votes. Gbajabiamila enjoyed the support of most members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which ab-initio declared him as their preferred candidate.
Gbajabiamila had 283 votes while Umar Bago got 76 votes.
