Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has lost his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Uwakwe Abugu.
News of Abugu’s death was communicated online on Tuesday by the state Commissioner for Information, Ogbuagu Bob Anikwe on his Facebook wall last night.
Anikwe wrote: “We lost a gentleman, a good man, Mr. Uwakwe Abugu, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Enugu State. Sad day for all of us in the media team.
“Uwakwe, I knew you for a very short time, but it was as if we knew each other for ages, the way we related, did the work together, and watched out for each other.
“It is well with your soul nwokem.”
Anikwe however issued a formal statement on Uwakwe’s death.
He said: “The Enugu State Government announces the passing on of Mr. Uwakwe Abugu, the Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor.
“Mr. Abugu passed on yesterday in a hospital in India after a protracted illness.
“The State Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi today visited late Abugu’s Enugu residence to condole with the family.
“Late Abugu was appointed Chief Press Secretary in June 2015. Before his appointment, he was the South East Bureau Chief of New Telegraph Newspaper.
“Burial arrangement is to be announced by the family.
“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace, Amen.”
