In apparent to riposte to speculations on 2027 elections being reason for his visit to former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, the erstwhile Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has declared that talks in that regard did not feature in their meeting.

Former Vice President Atiku who was the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Monday held a private meeting with his former boss, Obasanjo, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Despite persistent questions, Atiku declined to discuss Nigerian politics, leaving room for speculation about the nature of his engagement with the former president.

“It is a courtesy visit. I’m not going to talk about 2027 or politics. I’m not here because of 2027,” the former Vice President declared.

Atiku arrived at the sprawling Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta around 12:36 p.m. and quickly went to the Penthouse arm of the facility to meet his host, Obasanjo, who was waiting for him for a closed-door meeting.

He was accompanied by Abdul Ningi, Bauchi state Senator, former governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke and his Sokoto State counterpart, Aminu Tambuwal. On arrival, Atiku alongside members of his entourage were received at the Obasanjo’s residence by the elder statesman, Oyewole Fasawe, before they all went straight into a private meeting with Obasanjo.

Atiku is believed to be nursing 2027 presidential ambition. Since 2007, he has been running for the office either as aspirant or candidate, without success.
