BREAKING: 2023: Obi leads Tinubu, Atiku, Kwankwaso in new poll

If Nigeria’s presidential election was held today, Peter Obi of the Labour Party would win, according to an opinion poll conducted by NOI Polls.

The poll, commissioned by Mr. Peterside Atedo’s ANAP Foundation was conducted this month and suggests a three-horse presidential race between Obi, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) came fourth in the poll and was described as a ‘dark horse’.

“The results showed a significant lead for Mr Peter Obi with 21% of voters proposing to vote for him if the presidential election were to be conducted today; and 13% each proposing to vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who are both tied in second place. Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso was a distant fourth with 3% of voters proposing to vote for him,” a statement by ANAP foundation announcing the result of the poll shows.

Nigeria will hold her presidential election in February 2023 with campaigns set to start on September 28.

The poll also revealed that 74 per cent (about 7 in 10) of adult Nigerians interviewed disclosed that they are not registered members of any political party in the country.

The poll, which cuts across gender, geographical locations, and age-group, was conducted in the week commencing August 15, 2022, and it is the second in the series of the monthly election polls conducted by NOIPolls as Nigerians count down to the general elections in 2023.

The first such poll in the election series – Citizen’s Trust in Electoral Integrity – was conducted in July 2022. The NOIPolls was founded by the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
