100 abducted Niger schoolchildren regain freedom
By Jeffrey Agbo
The Federal Government has facilitated the release of 100 pupils kidnapped from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.
The development, reported on Sunday by TVC News and Channels Television, comes even as federal authorities have yet to issue a formal confirmation.
Armed men had raided the isolated community on November 21, invading the school around 2 a.m. on motorbikes and holding the area hostage for nearly three hours.
During the attack, 315 individuals were seized — 303 students and 12 teachers. Within the first day, about 50 pupils escaped and were reunited with their families, reducing the number of those in captivity to 265.
