Boomplay hails Burna Boy as he reaches 200 million streams

Burna Boy with the feat has broken the record as the first artist to reach the enviable mark on the music streaming platform, Boomplay

Nigerian singer and rapper, Damini Ogulu, known professionally as Burna Boy has been recognised as the first-ever African artiste to reach the 200 million streams mark on music streaming platform, Boomplay.

The disclosure came via the official Facebook page of the music streaming platform on Monday.

The statement read: “Odogwu you bad, e file fun Burna Boy as he poses with the first-ever duo-golden club plaque for hitting 200,000,000 streams on Boomplay!”

In recognition of his achievement, the Grammy-award winning artist was presented with a plaque in Lagos.

The Director of Artist and Media Relations of the music platform, Tosin Sorinola during the presentation said  Burna Boy is a talented singer whose songs will continue to affect people positively across Africa and the globe.

He also recognised that social media users in Africa are beginning to appreciate the digitization of music and streaming, adding that the milestone is an iconic feat for Burna Boy and Boomplay. 

He said, “This is another iconic feat for Burna Boy, Boomplay, and the entire African music industry.

“This achievement shows that fans in Africa are fast catching up to the digitization of music and streaming, which Boomplay is championing.

“With this development, artistes can earn even more on our platform. Burna Boy is a massively talented singer whose works will continue to affect people positively across Africa and the rest of the world

“We are proud of what he is doing and his milestone achievements on Boomplay; to this effect, we, at Boomplay, present this plaque to him in special recognition of his contributions so far in the industry and are looking forward to more extraordinary achievements.”

This is not the first time a Nigerian artiste will be making a mark on Boomplay, Olamide, and Fireboy DML reached 100 million streams in December 2021, but nobody had gone close to the 200 million mark by Burna Boy.
