President Muhammadu Buhari’s integrity is no match to that of the former vice president Atiku Abubakar and senate president Bukola Saraki.
Saraki’s claims that President Buhari does not have the integrity to prosecute a successful war against corruption is the joke of the century, says the Buhari Media Organization(BMO)
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary, Cassidy Madueke BMO said that neither Saraki nor the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar can measure up to the President on the integrity scale.
“We are shocked, like many Nigerians, that the usually smooth-talking Director General of PDP’s Presidential Campaign Council was short of words when asked questions bordering on President Buhari’s integrity
“This is because he knows that all the tales from the opposition rank, designed to paint the President with the same corruption tag as Atiku Abubakar, are just lies and propaganda.
“Or why did he not use the opportunity to bring up the tales about Buhari using proxies to buy controlling stakes in Etisalat and Keystone Bank like PDP had alleged in recent weeks”
“He also struggled to smear the President during the interview with Channels TV before he opted to clutch at straw by speaking about corruption in the system
“We agree that corrupt people are still in the system and many believe that the Senate President is one of them, which is why he conspired with anti-people forces in the National Assembly to scuttle President Buhari’s bid to push through several anti-corruption bills including the establishment of special courts”.
BMO noted that no government has since 1999 showed the type of political will displayed by the present administration to stem the tide of corruption in the country.
It recalled that it was under this government that high profile convictions were recorded in the trial of politically exposed persons while several former government officials forfeited property acquired with stolen public funds
“It is surprising that Saraki pretended to have forgotten that a sitting senator Joshua Dariye was convicted and sentenced to fourteen years in jail for embezzling funds during his tenure as Plateau state governor during 1999 and 2007.There is a also a similar conviction of a former Taraba state governor Jolly Nyame which Atiku’s campaign coordinator cannot say he is not aware of
“These are cases that were stalled on several occasions in the past and had been on for over ten years until the two powerful personalities were convicted even though they are now registered members of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC)”, BMO said
The group also noted that while President Buhari has left no doubt in Nigerians’ mind on his integrity, the same cannot be said of the Senate President.
“it is public knowledge that his name featured prominently in the global offshore leak known as Panama Papers which exposed leading world politicians who used shell companies in tax havens to either conceal assets, evade tax or launder funds.
