“Rest assured that my determination to serve you matches the urgency of the challenges we face,” Biya wrote on X, citing “numerous and insistent” calls from citizens in Cameroon and the diaspora for him to run for eighth term.
But DW Africa quoted Brenda, known as “King Nasty,” as saying in a Tik Tok session that her father’s four decades in power has left Cameroon with poverty, unemployment, and stagnation.

Brenda, daughter of Cameroonian President Paul Biya, has urged fellow citizens not to vote for her father in October in which the 92-year-old is seeking an eighth term after 43 years in power, an African record by far.
DW Africa quoted Brenda, known as “King Nasty,” as saying in a Tik Tok session that her father’s four decades in power has left Cameroon with poverty, unemployment, and stagnation.
Biya, who personally confirmed his candidacy for the election on October 12, is among the longest-serving leaders in the world but his time in office has drawn criticism over corruption, authoritarian rule, and disputed elections.
He first took office in 1982 after the resignation of Ahmadou Ahidjo, and his decision to run for an eighth term was shared via a post on his official X account.
“Rest assured that my determination to serve you matches the urgency of the challenges we face,” he wrote.
He said his decision followed “numerous and insistent” calls from citizens in Cameroon and the diaspora.
