The visitors were aiming to win and go ahead of Chelsea in second and Liverpool who leapfrogged The Blues to go top of the league earlier in the day.

The home side on the other hand had their ambition not to be dragged into the relegation dogfight by the three teams below them.

They, however, began the match on a bad note, as they conceded in the 4th minute, Phil Folden’s through pass was dispatched by Raheem Sterling to give City 1-0 lead.

City scored a third in the 63rd minute after Kyle Walker provided an assist for Bernardo Silva to score a brace and make it 3-0 to City.

Watford’s winger, Juan Hernandez saw his initial shot rebound off the goal post but tucked in the second attempt to reduce the scoreline to 3-1.

The defending champion held on to win the game and go past Chelsea and Liverpool into the top of the Premier League table.
