Ben White wants to be Arsenals’ next captain

Arsenal bought Ben White last summer from Brighton & Hove Albion, he has since formed a formidable partnership with Gabriel at the back

Arsenal defender, Ben White, has expressed his desire to become the next captain of the club after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped of the captaincy armband for disciplinary reasons.

He made this known while talking to talkSPORT, ahead of Arsenal’s week 19th away Premier League fixture against Norwich City on Boxing Day. 

Ben White who described his former captain,  Aubameyang as a ‘nice guy, admitted he and his colleagues missed him but added the team have refused to let the situation distract them.

The Gabonese striker featured last in their Premier League defeat to Everton on December 6, he has missed the last four matches against Southampton, West Ham, Leeds United, and Sunderland.

While Aubameyang’s future at Arsenal is in doubt with manager Mikel Arteta, dropping him as the captain of the North London side. Ben White has signified his interest in taking over the mantle of leadership.

Asked if Aubameyang’s situation has adversely affected the team, Ben White said:  “It hasn’t looked like it on the scoresheet. We have been playing well.

“Obviously, it’s disappointing for Auba, but we have all got our heads down and we are working hard.

“He’s a really nice guy, we all miss him, but it is what it is.”

When asked to suggest who he thinks can be the next Arsenal captain, White added: “I’ve never done it before, but it would obviously be an absolute honour to be captain.

“I think I have got some of the qualities to be captain but will see in time.”
