Bella Shmurda says he released ‘Cash App’ to expose Yahoo Boys’ struggles

Bella Shmurda released his hit song, ‘Cash App’, which featured rappers Zlatan and Lincoln, in 2020.

Afrobeats singer and songwriter, Abiola Ahmed Akinbiyi, popularly known as Bella Shmurda, has revealed that he released his hit song, “Cash App,” to highlight the struggles and rigour that internet fraudsters, otherwise known as Yahoo boys, endure.

​He shared this insight during a recent interview with Clout Africa while discussing the inspiration behind the track.

​Bella Shmurda released “Cash App,” which featured rappers Zlatan and Lincoln, in 2020. The song went on to become a massive success and an instant hit in Nigeria and other African countries.

​During the interview, the show host sought to understand the song’s inspiration and directly asked the singer if he had ever been involved in internet fraud. “What inspired ‘Cash App’? Were you doing Yahoo?” he asked.

​Responding, Shmurda explained that after realising that internet fraud was an arduous task, he decided to cater to the Yahoo boys by releasing a song that would highlight their struggles and motivate them.

​He said, “It is Yahoo in the sense that they [Yahoo boys] have to dance. These people that are hustling, you have to make them happy because internet fraud is stressful. It has a lot of challenges.

​“The truth is, when it comes to inspiration, you don’t have any story behind it. It is natural, it just comes. It is God-given. So, ‘Cash App’ is divine.”
