Former Man United winger, David Beckham has urged players of his former club to draw inspiration from him and his teammates when they donned the Red Devils’ shirt.

He gave the advice while featuring on talkSPORT, where he emphasized the importance of intrinsic motivation and approaching games with a must-win mentality ahead of their FA Cup final against Manchester City.

His remarks come amid a challenging period for Man United, with recent disappointing results leaving them in eighth place in the Premier League standings.

Despite the pressure on manager Erik ten Hag, Beckham believes that players should take personal responsibility for their performances and find motivation within themselves, rather than relying solely on external factors.

Reflecting on his own experiences, he stressed the significance of maintaining a consistent mindset regardless of the occasion, drawing inspiration from past achievements to fuel their determination.

Speaking during the sports show, Beckham said: “You’d hope that the manager [Ten Hag] doesn’t have to do much.

“I think that’s the whole point of being a Manchester United player and playing in these big games.

“You know you should be motivated when you’re a professional footballer and you’re doing the job that you love and you’re at the club that you love.

“Whether it’s a regular season game or whether it’s an FA Cup final against your rivals, that should be enough motivation.

“If it’s not then you’re on the wrong team and you’re playing the wrong sport.

“I think at the end of the day, we went into every game, whether it was a Youth Cup game, a friendly or a European Cup final with the same mentality and the same drive.

“That’s what you’d hope any team and any player for Manchester United, go into an FA Cup final with.

“I hope the current players can take inspiration from our achievements.”

Man United will face their local rivals, Man City in the FA Cup final on May 25 at the Wembley Stadium.
