Be upright, truthful while discharging your constitutional roles, Priest charges judges

The Federal High Court of Nigeria held the 2022/2023 legal year ceremony on Monday December 12, 2022 at its headquarters in Abuja.

The legal year activities commenced with legal year devotional worship at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church Maitama, Abuja for Christians and at AN-NUUR Mosque at Wuse 11, Abuja for Moslems.

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, the Honourable Justice John T. Tsoho who worshipped with other Christian judges read the first reading taken from the Book of Numbers 24:2-7, 15-17a, titled “S star shall come forth out of Jacob”

The officiating parish priest Rev. Father Moses Jimbili read the Holy Gospel according to Matthew, titled ” The baptism of John, where was it from?”

In his sermon, Rev. Father Jimbili tasked the judges to always uphold the truth in the discharge of their constitutional roles, adding that with truth, their conscience would never be shaken but if they jettison the truth in discharging duties, they would definitely be haunted by their conscience somehow.

The priest charges the judges to be upright in dealing with cases before them so that the just cannot be punished unjustly.

After the Holy Mass, the honourable Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John T. Tsoho presented the court’s instruments for the judges to work with to the priest for blessing.

In his vote of thanks, the Chief Judge thanked God for his grace which has continued to sustain the judiciary, the priest for celebrating the Holy Mass for the official commencement of 2022/2023 legal year, his bother judges, former Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Rtd Justice Ibrahim Auta and other special guests that celebrated the Holy Mass with the judges.

The devotional worship in the morning was later in the day followed by a guard of honour in the court complex premises by the police.

The Chief Judge inspected the guard of honour mounted by a detachment of the Nigeria Police followed by a parade.

After the parade, the judges proceeded to the Federal High Court Conference chamber for special legal year court session to mark the 2022/2023 legal year.
