Bayelsa commissioner escapes mob attack at PDP ad-hoc delegate election

By Amos Ode

There was a mild drama at the precinct of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Bayelsa state Secretariat as the Bayelsa state Commissioner for Education , Robinson Obuebite narrowly escaped mob action by PDP supporters of yet to be ascertained aspirant for the November 16 governorship election.

Our correspondent gathered that mammoth crowd were at the state PDP Secretariat for the ad-hoc delegate elections chaired by the Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi sorting out papers with the PDP officials when Obuebite moved towards the campaign office of Timi Alaibe and was confronted by Timi Alaibe’s supporters who protested against some identified anomalies.

The commissioner was rescued by the security that were stationed at the gate and outside the Secretariat.

Thereafter there were  sporadic shootings and dynamite explosion which led many people to scamper for safety.

This pandemonium and shootings  led the governor and his team to remain inside for hours before departing the venue.

The campaign offices of Alaibe and that of Rt Hon  Fred Agbedi are situated within proximity of the PDP secretariat, but the protesters sang songs in favour of Alaibe who  is being allegedly sidelined in the PDP ad-hoc  delegate elections.
