The Bauchi state government has warned unserious primary and secondary school teachers over absenteeism during school hours, saying any teacher found wanted would be sanctioned.
The warning was given by the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Yahaya Ibrahim, during an interview with newsmen after inspecting some public schools in Bauchi metropolis.
Ibrahim expressed disappointment with the situation he found at the public schools where there was a low turnout of both teachers and students between 7am to 8.30am.
He warned that the government would not condole any act of indolence and indiscipline on the part of teachers, considering the huge amount of money injected into the education sector.
Inrahim said that any teacher, who fails to give satisfactory reason for his or her absence, would face disciplinary action.
According to him, “The board would not fold its arms and allow some unserious teachers sabotage the state government’s efforts at improving the quality of education in the state.
“I enjoin school inspectors to rise up to their responsibilities by ensuring that teachers come to work regularly and close at the scheduled time,” he said.
Also, the Northeast Zonal Director of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Hassan Umar, said that the commission was committed in turning around the fortune of basic education in the state, hence the need for stakeholders to compliment its effort.
Umar then commended the Bauchi State government for paying it counterpart funds, saying that the renovation of public schools will soon commence.
