Bauchi South senatorial bye-election: Broadcaster wins PDP ticket

The former Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Dr Ladan Salihu, On Wednesday, July 25, 2018, emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Bauchi South senatorial bye-election.

The Senatorial bye-election is scheduled to hold on the August 11, 2018.

Ladan Salihu polled a total of 575 votes at the party primaries to defeat Garba Dahiru, a former Commissioner of Finance in the immediate past PDP administration of Isa Yuguda as well as Hajara Yakubu Wanka who also served as Senior Special Assistant in the same administration.

Announcing the results of the primaries held at Command Guest House, Bauchi, on Wednesday, Chairman of PDP Bauchi South Senatorial bye-election Committee, Barrister Victor Kwon, disclosed that a total of 772 delegates were accredited for the primaries out of which a total of 769 actually cast their votes.

He said that Hajara Yakubu Wanka polled a total of 35 votes while Dahiru Garba polled a total of 96 votes and Ladan Salihu polled a total of 575 votes just as 63 votes were voided.

“Having scored the highest total number of votes cast and fulfilled all the requirements of the primaries,” he said, “Victor Kwon, hereby declares Dr Ladan Salihu as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the Bauchi south senatorial bye-election.”

He however appealed to the other contestants that lost in the primaries to rally round Ladan Salihu, and work for the party to emerge victorious in the bye-election.

In his acceptance speech, Ladan Salihu thanked the delegates for considering him worthy to be the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the bye-election, assuring that he will get victory for the party.

Ladan Shehu assured that he would give a good representation for the Bauchi south senatorial district if eventually elected.

He called on those who contested with him but lost to see it as an act of God and rally round the party to emerge victorious at the end.
