Bauchi NAWOJ charged on violence against women

The presiding Magistrate,Court 12, in Bauchi state, Magistrate Safiya Musa has charged members of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) to use their various media towards eliminating violence against women in the country.

She stated this at the weekend while presenting a paper during the celebration of the International Day to eliminate violence against women organized by NAWOJ, Bauchi state chapter.

According to her, cases of violence against women and girls were condoned in the society,adding that some of the laws created in the past were made with gabs which affect fast dispensation of justice.

Musa said: “Some of the laws on violence against women are obsolete because,a doctor has to examine the victim of rape and provide results as evidence and the family of the victim will not want the child or woman to take up the case hiding behind the environment and society..

“Violence against women has cost women to remain sick because some of these violence have no cure because there are cases where victims are left with trams intending disease,psychological trauma, inability to conceive and give birth, among others.

“Men are no longer their sisters keepers because the society condones all these forms of violence.

She thereby called on government at all levels to tackle issues of violence against women and find a lasting solution to the menace for a healthy society.

In her remarks, the State chairperson of NAWOJ, Bulak Afsa explained the various forms of violence to be psychological and physical,adding that each woman was affected with one form of violence or other in her life time.

She called on all hands to be on deck to train male child to care and provide protection for the women folk from childhood.

Afsa charged women to always advocate against women violence in the society.
