Fulham defender, Calvin Bassey has described himself as a “poacher” after scoring for his team in Sunday’s Emirates FA Cup win against Manchester United at the Old Trafford.
The Nigerian international netted the game’s curtain raiser late in the first half with a powerful header.
It was the Super Eagles defender’s first-ever goal in the cup competition.
However, despite Bruno Fernandes’s equalizer for the Red Devils 19 minutes from time, Fulham went on to prevail 4-3 on penalties and advanced to the quarter final of the competition.
Speaking to the BBC after the caggy encounter, Bassey said, “It’s a privilege and an honour to be here. To come here, it is a blessing, so I’m happy.”
He added, “I like to say I’m a bit of a poacher. Trying to smell where the ball would go and reacted first. Put my head on it and back of the net.”
He went on to praise their opponent despite emerging victorious in the encounter.
“They’re a very good team with a lot of talent. We tried to take the sting out of the game and control possession,” Bassey further said.
