Liverpool Football Club legends John Barnes and Robbie Fowler took the Nigerian team to the 2014 Standard Chartered Trophy Finals through their paces at the Liverpool Academy on Monday as the team rounded off their preparations for the tournament holding Tuesday at Anfield.
The former England internationals were assisted by Liverpool trainers and coaches as the 14 participating teams had a feel of top professional training methods.
“It was a fantastic experience,” says Nigeria’s Oladipo Lawani who scored four goals against four different opponents during the training matches. “I followed Barnes and Fowler during their great careers, so it was wonderful working with them at close quarters.
“The Liverpool coaches had a really hands-on approach which helped me to build my confidence and settle down to play my game. I’m hoping to score many goals during the tournament proper since I already have a feel of the opponents we are going to face.
