Barcelona are the champions of Spain after sealing their first La Liga title since 2018-19 with a dominant away display at the home of their city rivals, Espanyol.

Xavi’s men won the trophy after a brace from Lewandowski and a goal each from Balde and Kounde earned them a comfortable 4-2 victory.

The visitors were 3-0 up by half-time, Robert Lewandowski scoring his 20th league goal of the season before Alejandro Balde doubled their advantage in the 20th minute.

Lewandowski then scored his brace of the match in the 40th minute, after which Jules Kounde’s header made it 4-0 in the 57th minute.

Espanyol didn’t quite get going until the second half when they were able to reduce the deficit through Javier Puado and Joselu.

Barcelona with the win now have 85 points, 14 more than nearest rivals Real Madrid, who have just 12 points left to play for.

It is their first La Liga title since club legend Lionel Messi left in August 2021 and the first since Xavi was appointed manager in November 2021.

Espanyol on the other hand, remain in trouble near the bottom of the table and are now in danger of a second relegation in four seasons after a ninth league defeat in 11 games.

They are four points from safety with four matches left.
