Barcelona allay fans’ fear, say friendly with Arsenal will hold

Barcelona were forced to call off their game against Juventus on Saturday after a couple of players caught a virus

La Liga giants, Barcelona have assured their fans and other football lovers all over the world that they will participate in the pre-season friendly against Arsenal next Wednesday.

The assurance was given through a statement released on the club’s social media page recently.

Barcelona were expected to take on Serie A side, Juventus, on Saturday, but were forced to call off the game after a couple of players caught a virus.

The cancellation later led to speculation that their fixture against Mikel Arteta’s men next week in Los Angeles could also be abandoned.

However, Barcelona via a social media post, said they have discussed with Arsenal and reassured their fans that the pre-season game with take place as scheduled.   

The La Liga club said: “FC Barcelona would like to encourage its fans to attend and enjoy the game we are going to play this Wednesday against Arsenal at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

“Both teams are in close contact and we both have the utmost confidence that our game will go on as planned.”

Meanwhile, Manchester United gained bragging rights over rivals Arsenal on Saturday night as first-half goals from Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho sealed a 2-0 win in a friendly played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.  

The match was played in front of a stadium soccer record crowd of 82,262. 

Fernandes, who was recently appointed United’s captain, opened the scoring in the 30th minute after beating Aaron Ramsdale from 20 yards, although the Arsenal keeper was culpable.

The Red Devils doubled their advantage seven minutes later when Sancho took advantage of an error by Gabriel and fired a powerful shot into the top corner.
