Bail denied for Baba Ijesha

The Magistrate Court, Yaba, has denied Yoruba actor, Olarenwaju James, popularly known as  Baba Ijesha, bail. 

Baba Ijesha has been in police custody for almost two months before he was arraigned in court Yesterday, June 16. 

Baba Ijesha’s lawyer, Kayode Olabiran, asked that bail be granted his client due to his worsening health condition.

The Magistrate, P. E Nwaka,  said Baba Ijesha’s bail application was beyond the court’s jurisdiction.

“The defendant must be accorded full medical attention by the authorities pending his arraignment at the High Court,”  the magistrate said. 

The magistrate adjourned the case to July 13, for mention.

Baba Ijesha was charged for sexual abuse of a minor.  He was charged with indecent treatment of a child, defilement of a child, sexual assault by penetration, attempted sexual assault by penetration, and sexual assault contravening sections 135, 137, 261, 202, 262, and 263 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
