Babayaro confirms Amokachi rejected S’Eagles’ coaching job

Babayaro said the former Everton striker initially accepted the offer but later turned it down after NFF spelt out the terms of the contract

Former Nigerian international, Emmanuel Babayaro has explained that Daniel Amokachi turned down the offer to work as Super Eagles’ assistant coach because it contained  “demeaning terms”.

Amokachi was appointed as one of the assistant coaches to Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George in May by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

He was appointed alongside Benjamin James, Olatunji Baruwa, Chima Onyeike, and Mehmet Ozturk.

However, there were concerns from pundits and fans of the Super Eagles after he failed to show up at the team’s camp, where they were preparing for the crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa and Benin Republic.

TheNiche later gathered from a reliable source that Amokachi rejected the contract offered by the Nigeria Football Federation.

Confirming the decision via a social media post, Babayaro said the former Everton striker rejected the offer after NFF spelt out the job conditions.

The terms according to him included no salary and his involvement with the team will be based on the discretion of the head coach.

Speaking on Amokachi’s decision to reject NFF’s offer, Babayaro said: “How demeaning can these conditions be?

“Amokachi said yes to the appointment as the Super Eagles assistant coach but an emphatic no to the demeaning conditions attached thereto.”
