Nigeria’s former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida has said despite his differences with late former President, Muhammadu Buhari, he never doubted his sincerity or patriotism.
The ex-Military President made this known in a statement he issued while expressing deep sorrow over the passing of Buhari.
According to Babangida, the late president was a symbol of Nigeria’s transition from the old guard to the new republic.
He also went down memory lane and shared their time together in the military.
“Our paths crossed in 1962 when we both joined the Nigerian Military Training College in Kaduna,” he said.

He added that from their days in training camp, Buhari’s quietness, resolute, principled nature, humility, patriotism and loyalty to Nigeria radiated for all to see.
He further noted that fate placed both of them in leadership at different times, and in very different circumstances.
“But in all, Buhari remained consistent in his belief in integrity, order, and the dignity of public office,” IBB added.
” I knew him as a deeply spiritual man…” he further said.
Babangida went on to describe Buhari a “brother and friend” and extended his condolences to his wife, Aisha, his children and grandchildren.
