Babangida assures govt of support

The former military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), has said that he would not object to offer useful advise to any government, be it federal or state when the need arises.

Babangida said that as a former Nigerian leader he would continue to offer useful advice that would assist in taking informed decisions for the benefits of the government and Nigerians if he was called upon.

Babangida gave the assurance when he received the chairman and members of the Niger State Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who visited his residence to felicitate with him (IBB) over his safe return after medical trip abroad.

As a Nigerian who has seen things from the perspective of a once former President, Babangida said, “I am ready and willing to continuously offer beneficial advice to the federal and state governments on the best way forward when the need arises’.

The former president who was, looking healthy said that as a Nigerian who loves his country, he was committed to the Project Nigeria because, ‘‘I have no other country that I can call my own but Nigeria.”

Babangida however solicited for the cooperation and support of all Nigerians to all the three tiers of governments, insisting that, ‘without our support the governments cannot achieve their plans for the states and the nation at large.’’

He however expressed gratitude to the state PDP delegation for the concerns over his health and also finding time to visit him and assured them that he would always be available for them when called upon.

Leader of the delegation and state PDP chairman, Tanko Beji, said that they were satisfied with the state of health of Babangida and prayed that God would continue to strengthen him to enable him serve the state, nation and humanity for a longer period through his wise counsels.

Tanko Beji however urged IBB not to relent in his advisory role as an elder statesman who is always looked up to by future leaders, saying, “Younger generations are happy that they are tapping from your wealth of experience”.

Prayers were also offered for God to further strengthen the former Nigerian leader.
