Baba-Ahmed tears up on TV and promises national unity if Obi wins

Datti Baba-Ahmed has disclosed with tears on national television how himself and members of his family have come up against insults and attacks from political adversaries since he joined the Peter Obi ticket on the Labour Party (LP) platform.

He teared up during the townhall organised by Channels Television on Sunday night when he recounted how his family and the memory of his late father became objects of ridicule.

He said his family background began to get rubbished soon after he became the tag team mate on the LP presidential ticket and took on those who spread misconceptions and falsehoods about Obi.

“When I joined the ticket, I impeached certain lies against him [Peter Obi] and particularly my good friend on the APC side on the same level [Kashim Shettima, the running mate of Bola Tinubu].

“You know when people think they have money, they have power, and the sitting authority is theirs.

“Someone has to tap them on the shoulder. I did and told him to do it and I will do three you know I am capable of doing it.

“However, I and my family have been paying a huge price for my attempts to rescue Nigeria. They sent all sorts of people after me.

“I would have been much happier if only they stopped at me as an individual…”

Baba-Ahmed became emotional and had to be excused as he stepped off the set to get himself together before he returned, according to reporting by Vanguard.

Buhari, Atiku, Baba-Ahmed all with foreign ancestries

Baba-Ahmed is a Nigerian from Kaduna but has a Mauritanian ancestry on which the APC Campaign has cast aspersions.

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared his ancestry goes back to Niger Republic; just as Jada, the village in Adamawa where Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar was born, was part of Cameroon.

Jada was under the administration of the British Cameroons when Atiku was born in 1946 but the territory later joined with the Federation of Nigeria in 1961.

Obi as President will unite Nigeria, Baba-Ahmed pledges

Baba-Ahmed pledged in the same Channels Television townhall that a vote for Obi with him as Vice President is a vote for the unity of Nigeria, per Vanguard.

He said as soon as the LP assumes office, the first task will be to unite Nigerians to fight insecurity, corruption, and the dwindling economy.

“The day you hear President Peter Obi, Nigeria will be united.”
