Comedian and now award-winning and record-setting filmmaker, Ayo Makun, popular as AY, has said that his annual Easter Sunday show will this year blow the mind of the audience. He was speaking to TheNiche in an interview at his Lekki, Lagos office on this year’s edition holding on April 16.
“Usually, I tell people that it is going to be different and when they come they find out that it is indeed actually different. And because I have over-used the words,‘it is going to be different’, I am trying to look for another word to use. I probably would say ‘Easter Sunday this year would definitely blow your mind and blow the minds of people who are looking forward to seeing the show’,” he said. He explained that quite a lot of innovations will again take place at the show.
“They will hit you from left to right and centre and all put together the simple idea will be just to make you laugh,” he added.
AY, who said that Maltina(from Nigerian Breweries) would not be part of the sponsors this year after a three-year run, said some other brands had been waiting patiently for the show’s contract with the malt drink to elapse and have since jumped aboard.
“Immediately, Peak Milk stepped in. Payporte stepped in as well. So this year we have Payporte, Peak Milk and a good number of partnerships that help to project the AY Live brand,” he said.
The comedian said that Owerri would be added to the line-up of cities that host the annual show that include Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja and London this year.
Already at post-production stage of his third film, 10 Days in Sun City, after setting Guinness World Records with the first, 30 Days in Atlanta, and breaking the same with the second, A Trip to Jamaica, AY said they are working to make sure it comes out the way it should.
“I can, in all confidence, say that this new project titled 10 Days in Sun City will definitely relegate every other Akpos series that I have done as the AY brand. So that is where we are,” he said.
Among those in the new film are Richard Mofe-Damijo, AdesuaEtomi, Mercy Johnson, Falz, Akpos(AY)himself and quite a good number of actors who came and played themselves in the movie – from Solid Star to 2baba and Peter of P-Square.
“Yeah, 10 Days in Sun City is a new one with a difference that makes a lot of sense,” he said.
