Aviation Minister barred from entering Airport as workers strike continues

Following the on-going strike by Aviation unions, the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika was barred from entering the airport premises.

The unions, comprising of National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, (ATSSSAN) and the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals, (ANAP) locked all the gates leading to the headquarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), preventing the entry of the Minister, who came to hold a town hall meeting with the unions and members of staff.

The union members made sure the gates were under lock and key, blocked with vehicles and singing solidarity songs blaring from loud speakers.

Recall the union executives had on Wednesday evening, issued a notice to embark on a warning  strike after a 7 -day ultimatum issued to FAAN management to meet their demands.

The unions demanded immediate payment of outstanding allowances, leave allowances, remittance of contributory pensions, cooperative deductions, gratuity of retired staff and death benefits.

Other demands include; immediate release of aviation intervention funds, implementation of the national minimum wage and immediate remittance N105.3 billion actuarial valuation as 2016 to PFA’s, immediate reparation of 2020 actuarial valuation.

The action of the aviation unions prevented staff of other aviation agencies to gain entry into their offices.

Meanwhile, the liquefied natural gas outperformed in Q3 despite Covid-19 pandemic challenges.

It also showed more upside that LNG was among the top performers in Q3.

It further maintained that global cases at unprecedented levels led to LNG being among the top performers in Q3.

It was also stated that LNG’s prices to hold at around $5/MMBTu (a standard gas measurement) through the end of 2020.

The report hinted that investors are also very hopeful of strong LNG demand in Q4 as emerging markets in the Northern hemisphere.

The report also clarified that more liquefied natural gas would be required to warm its citizens, hence increasing demand among the spectrum
