By Julius Alabi, Akure

The Yoruba Nation Global Directorate (YNGD) has described the Thursday midnight attack of the Ibadan, Oyo State Residence of Yoruba Nation Agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo (Sunday Igboho) as callous.

In a statement by the group through its spokesman, Otunba Demola Edward in Akure, it said the attack was a ploy to silence the Yorubas in the actualisation of Yoruba Nation Autonomy.

His words: “A very distressing news came to the Yoruba Nation Global Directorate in the early hours of Thursday 1st July, 2021 that the Nigerian Army on the orders of the Federal Government of Nigeria visited and attacked the private residence of a topmost Yoruba human rights activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho Oosha) killing scores of people and destroying properties worth several millions of naira.

“The Yoruba Nation Global Directorate seriously condemns this unprovoked attack on Yoruba citizens. We consider the act of Nigeria, a disputed territory whose Grundnorm was strongly repudiated by the Nigeria Indigenous Nationalities Alliance for Self-Determination (NINAS) 16 March 2021,” he said.

Edward further stressed that this was a crime against humanity, suppression of free speech and gross breach of United Nations treaties saying that the Directorate is currently assessing the unfolding situation and will soon respond with a course of action.

“For avoidance of doubt, the Directorate is determined to use all means to defend our Yoruba compatriots and our territory against this murderous and repressive Fulani regime, one of the worst in recent human history.

“It is our humble opinion that Yoruba citizens home and in Diaspora should not let this silent their agitation for freedom but revamp efforts to save the Yoruba race from impending genocide and takeover of our ancestral homeland by the Fulani led government.

“This is a highly perilous time, a time when the Yoruba Nation must stand together and display our indomitable spirit.   Now is a time in our history when true patriots must unite and every freedom agitator are needed more than ever.

“And now is the time for Yoruba Self-determination groups to send three delegates to represent them at the Yoruba Nation Global Directorate. The Directorate operate an all-encompassing open-door approach that is specially conceptualized as Ebute for Yoruba self-determination agitators.  United We stand, divided we fall.  The time for vain glorifying is over, now is the time for vision to trump ambition.   Our work of rebuilding Yoruba Nation cannot be achieved on social media or in the press through vexatious and scandalous propaganda against compatriots and self-determination groups.

“Moreover, our people whose desire is for FREDDOM just like ourselves should not be perceived as enemies when the Fulani are daily using our resources to fight us in an attempt to perpetually subjugate us.

“Thus we respectfully this time appeal that no persons or groups should explore the current tragedy that befall our Yoruba Nation as a reason to create multiple fund raising to support projects or fight this injustice, let us do it in harmony so that our response can be well coordinated.

“It will be an understatement to assert that our Nation, the Yoruba Nation needs a lot of money to support our brother whose residence has been mercilessly attacked and desecrated, to support the families of those killed, fund litigation against the Federal Government in local and international institutions of justice, and so on.   It is for this and many other reasons that the Yoruba Nation Global Directorate`s vision which is complimentary of the great work of Chief Adebanji Akintoye and numerous Yoruba Nationalist and our highly revered patriots.

“We hereby call on all Yoruba citizens to donate to the established and adequately vetted fund created by the Yoruba Nation Global Directorate, being Yoruba Nation government in exile that represents the interest of all Yoruba citizens,” the group said.

The group also solicited support, urging sympathisers to: “Kindly visit our website on https://www.yorubanationglobaldirectorate.org and make your generous donations.  Please save our souls. We trust your best of judgement as you support the Yoruba Nation Global Directorate`s efforts.”
