Former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has vowed that he will keep trying to become Nigeria’s number one citizen as long as he remains healthy.
He made this known recently during an interview on the Hausa service of the Voice of America (VOA) in Abuja.
Atiku who will be 81 during the next presidential election in 2027, went on to draw inspiration from former United States President, Abraham Lincoln, who won election after seven trials.
He, however, admitted that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will need to be united and forge alliances with other political groups for him to realise his dream. .

Asked if he will contest again during the chat, Atiku said: “Of course, I will keep contesting again and again as long as I am alive and healthy.
“Even the former US President Abraham Lincoln contested seven times before finally winning.
“However, given the current state of the PDP, it is clear that a single-handed effort will not suffice to win the election. Strong support and collaboration with other parties are required.”
Atiku has tried to become the president of Nigeria six times but has only been on the ballot paper as a presidential candidate on three occasions — 2007, 2019, and 2023.
His latest comment on his presidential ambition is coming amid speculation of him forming a coalition with other political parties.
Last week, Atiku met with his counterpart from the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, pledging to back him if parties in merger talk make him their presidential candidate.
