The opposition coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied reports claiming it has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Thursday in Abuja, Salihu Lukman, the coalition’s interim spokesperson and a former APC Vice Chairman (Northwest), dismissed the reports as entirely false. He also refuted claims that he had been appointed head of the coalition’s secretariat.
“The public should disregard the story as it is completely false. No such decision has been taken. Also false is the report that the coalition has adopted the ADC at its meeting of Tuesday, May 20, 2025,” he said.
Lukman clarified that discussions among the coalition’s stakeholders—including opposition leaders and disaffected members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)—are still ongoing, and no final decision has been made regarding a political platform for the 2027 elections.
“Unfortunately, there appears to be some mischief makers promoting and planting stories in the media with the clear aim of sowing seeds of discord among coalition leaders. The public and the media should please disregard all these mischievous stories.
“Once negotiations are concluded, a formal announcement will be made by the leaders of the coalition,” he stated.
Lukman assured that a formal announcement would be made once negotiations are concluded.
