Nigeria beat seven-time champions, Egypt, in their opening Group D game match on Tuesday, and they are expected to take on the Falcons of Sudan today, Saturday, January 15, 2022.

The Eagles’ encounter at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium, Garoua against Egypt saw Kelechi Iheanacho score the only goal of the game, while the Troost-Ekong led rearguard effectively checkmated  Liverpool ace, Mohamed Salah, all through the encounter.

While analysing the match on SuperSports however, Asamoah Gyan said having watched all the teams play in the tournament, Nigeria is the most outstanding team so far out of the 24-team in AFCON.

He said, “Yes, as of today, Nigeria stands out as the team with the will to conquer all oppositions going by what happened in the match against Egypt.

“Every other potential winner of the tournament seems to be playing with too much caution and this explains why most of the matches haven’t been impressive.

He also said the Super Eagles showed the character of a potential champion and should have beaten Egypt with more than a goal.

” Nigeria deserved to score more goals in the match [against Egypt], but they were unlucky in the final cut. This was a team that had its pre-tournament challenge as they were unable to have some of their best forwards [Victor Osimhen, Odion Ighalo, and Emmanuel Dennis] for th,e tournament, and playing a strong team like Egypt in the opening match was an acid test and they excelled,” he added.
