Afrobeats singer and songwriter Ahmed Ololade, better known as Asake, has revealed that his father, Fatai Odunsi, strongly opposed his decision to pursue a career in music.

He shared this during a candid interview with YouTuber Korty EO, explaining that his father’s refusal to support his ambitions caused their once-close relationship to turn cold.

Asake admitted that he eventually absconded from home to chase his dreams after his father attempted to stop him from singing.

In March 2025, the singer’s father made headlines after accusing his son of neglect and abandonment, despite Asake’s global fame and fortune.

Following the heavy backlash that greeted this disclosure, the pair eventually reconciled, and the singer began taking full responsibility for his father’s welfare.

Reflecting on their history during the interview, the ‘Lonely at the Top’ crooner noted that they were once very tight-knit.
