Somolu area of Lagos was agog as artisans, bankers, market women and students turned out en mass to participate in the Walk For Health and Fitness programme organized by Ojomu Taiwo, recently.
The event saw a mammoth crowd assembled at about 6:30am at the popular Elediye Junction, Onipanu, Lagos from where they moved round the major streets in Somolu with the train stopping at the Somolu local government secretariat, the end point with free medical check-up being carried out on people by experienced medical professionals.
According to the organiser of the event, Ojomu Taiwo, who described the fitness walk as a baby of necessity, which will not only bring about a healthy lifestyle, but also increases people’s life span.
He added, “It’s necessary to let our people know the importance of taking time out to engage in exercise of this nature.
“It will not only burn the excessive calories in the body but as well give one the opportunity of being in good frame of mind and increase the longevity of life”.
Commending the initiative, one of the participants, Mr. Babatunde Sunday, who spoke with our correspondent, described the exercise as lifesaving venture that would have positive effects on the participants.
“I usually spend my weekend either with my friends or sleeping but I got to know about walk for health programme through my neighbour and I decided to give it a try.
“I see this as an eye opener and I’ll try as much as possible to engage in regular exercise to keep me in good frame of mind”.
Ojomu, however, enjoined ‘Somoluans’ to imbibe the culture of engaging in a regular exercise that will help them to live a better and healthy lifestyle.
The CEO of T-Degree thanked the participants and all those who had one way or the other contributed to the success of the programme not leaving out the security agencies who ensured the programme went peacefully.
